Map View and Navigation

There are several ways to view and navigate around your map.

Step 1 of 3: Use Left Navigation

You can quickly and easily find any map item using the left Navigation Pane. All map items are represented in one or more of twelve different categories. Simply click on any item to select that item and scroll the map to display the item in the center of the map window.

Step 2 of 3: Map Levels

Map levels make your maps easier to view. Your map can have thousands of nodes, so LANsurveyor automatically groups map objects into three levels:

Level 1 includes network segments and routers (SNMP support is required to identify routers)

Level 2 includes network segments, routers and switches (SNMP support is required to identify switches)

Level 3 includes network segments, routers, switches, and all other end nodes

To change your default map view, select Options from the Tools menu then click on the Levels tab.

Click on one of the map level icons to change your map level. Click on the Level 1 icon clip0131 to view just your routers and network segments. Click on the Level 2 icon clip0132 to view Level 1 plus your switches. Click on the Level 3 icon  clip0133to display all map nodes.

Map View Filters clip0143to limit the nodes displayed in Level 3 to certain groups or classes of objects (e.g., just nodes that responded to SNMP queries).

Step 3 of 3: Move Map View from Overview

Open the Map Overview by clicking on the Map Overview icon on the toolbar lsw_zoom_over or selecting Overview from the Window menu.
