NEON POISED TO SAVE CORPORATIONS MILLIONS IN MAINFRAME COSTS WITH zPRIME
NEON zPrime enables more than half of IBM System z workloads to run on IBM’s specialty processors, which have no usage charge
SUGAR LAND, TX. – June 30, 2009 – NEON Enterprise Software today announced immediate availability of NEON zPrime, a proprietary software product that dramatically reduces the cost of mainframe computing. NEON zPrime will save mainframe users millions of dollars in IT costs by taking full advantage of IBM System z specialty processors.
NEON zPrime can save companies with System z mainframes 20 percent or more of their annual mainframe hardware and software costs under conventional use-pricing structures. Unlike any approach to date that attempts to offload processing from a System z central processor, or CP, to IBM specialty processors such as System z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) or System z Application Assist Processors (zAAP), zPrime easily enables the shift of huge amounts of routine workloads running on CPs to these equally-fast but lower-cost specialty processors.
zPrime can facilitate the transfer of as much as 50 percent or more of a company’s IMS, DB2, CICS, TSO/ISPF, and batch workloads from System z CPs to zIIP and zAAP processors, and consequently reduce mainframe costs significantly. Mainframe users now have more options of what workloads to move to a specialty processor to meet capacity planning and cost optimization objectives.
“The cost of computing resources on the mainframe is unnecessarily high,” said Lacy H. Edwards, chairman and CEO of NEON. “In keeping with IBM’s stated objective to lower the cost of mainframe computing, NEON continues to innovate and develop solutions that help customers get their mainframe work done more cost effectively.”
NEON zPrime is 100 percent compliant with IBM specifications, rules and conditions for System z processor access to assure a seamless environment that makes IMS, CICS, TSO/ISPF, DB2, batch jobs and NEON IMS utilities workloads eligible for processing on zIIPs or zAAPs.
Industry analysts briefed by NEON on zPrime acknowledged NEON’s opportunity to help companies substantially reduce costs of mainframe use and ownership.
“For years, mainframe workloads have been a target for migration because of the high cost of ownership,” said Jasmine Noel, an analyst with the IT market research firm Ptak Noel & Associates. “It seems NEON’s innovation dramatically changes the game, making the mainframe more cost competitive than ever before.”
“It’s rare to witness disruptive innovation in a market that’s been around for 50 years,” said Edwards. “There has been a glaring lack of real innovation among mainframe independent software vendors these past couple of decades. The market is clearly ready for zPrime.”
