NEON zPRIME™ SHAKES UP MAINFRAME MARKET
Recent launch of disruptive software product ignites tidal wave of attention from scores of the world’s largest mainframe users; hundreds attend webinar to learn more

SUGAR LAND, TX. – July 16, 2009 – NEON Enterprise Software is responding to a massive wave of interest over a newly-released software product called NEON zPrime that saves mainframe users millions of dollars in IT costs by realizing the full potential of IBM System z specialty processors.

zPrime drastically reduces mainframe costs by facilitating the movement of IBM System z workloads that run on central processors (CPs) to IBM specialty processors that run at a fraction of the cost. Until zPrime, such massive shifts of mainstream business application processing workloads to System z Integrated Information Processors (zIIPs) and Application Assist Processors (zAAPs) were not possible.

Since the launch of zPrime on June 30, NEON has fielded countless inquiries from IT organizations with mainframe processing capacities ranging from 5,000 to as much as 270,000 MIPS (millions of instructions per second) in place. Hundreds of organizations—including scores on Fortune Magazine’s list of the largest 500 companies—flooded an informational webinar on zPrime conducted by NEON this week. Attendees included some of the largest manufacturing, banking and financial services, healthcare and consumer products organizations in the world. Mainframe user blogs and “listservs” (automated mass email listing applications commonly used by IT user groups) now buzz with discussions over the implications of zPrime for IT budget impacts, usability and considerations specific to a given user’s mainframe environment.

“zPrime is making waves the likes of which haven’t been seen in the mainframe world for decades,” said NEON Chairman and CEO Lacy H. Edwards. “Its disruptive nature is clearly reflected by the massive interest in its innovative approach to reducing the cost of expensive mainframe operations.”

At a private event to unveil zPrime to some of NEON’s customers, early users of the software enthusiastically shared test results that proved zPrime can move major workloads from costly-to-use System z central processors and on to IBM specialty zIIPs and zAAPs that run the workloads as fast or faster than the central processors. Because mainframe software from independent software vendors such as CA and BMC are typically priced according to the number of central processors, users can slash significant costs by shifting the workloads to zIIPs and zAAPs, which don’t carry the same MIPS-based pricing burden.

“In one case a customer told us that zPrime could save his company from $20 to $30 million,” Edwards said. “That is just one company out of hundreds with similar mainframe environments.”
